Union County Retired Educators reconvene following summer hiatus

UNION COUNTY – Following a summer hiatus, the Union County Retired Educators club is once again convening regularly. During the club’s latest meeting, several projects were pitched for the club to support moving forward, including local Special Olympics, senior citizen meals, assistance with student fees, and the Friday Backpack Program. The club’s full update is as follows:

“After a summer’s hiatus, the Union County Retired Educators met to begin a new term under the presidency of John Preston. The group agreed to continue meeting at 11:30 the first Thursday of the month at the Cock & Bull Restaurant. President Preston asked for suggestions where the group might give support to the community, as well as individual community service. Projects suggested included support of Special Olympics, senior citizen meals, assistance of student fees and the Friday Backpack program.
Two new members, Bev Carnan and Sharon Wilson, joined the group, sharing summer adventures as well as individual service throughout the summer. Volunteer hours will be sent to the state association toward the end of the year. Two members, Gerald and Mary Hopkins, will represent the local unit at the state meeting in Independence, Oregon at the end of September.”
