Union County Man Arrested on Multiple Warrants

UNION COUNTY – (Release from Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office) On 08/16/2022, at about 8:00 am, a Deputy with our office observed a vehicle near the Arlington Gas Station with switched license plates. The vehicle our Deputy observed was a poorly painted Mercedes, but the license plate returned on a F-250. The listed owner on the license plate had multiple felony warrants out of Union County and Baker Counties.
During the contact, the driver was identified however the passenger did not want to produce identification. A short time later, the passenger decided to sneak away from the vehicle, and create distance with our Deputies. A DMV photograph was obtained from Frontier Regional 9-1-1 during this time and our Deputies verified the passenger was the wanted subject.
Deputies began to look for the suspect around the gas station and worked their way to the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks along the Columbia River. A community member advised a Deputy he observed a male suspect running towards the river and saw him on the railroad tracks.
Due to the suspect fleeing on foot with multiple officer safety alerts and of course the felony warrants, our units requested assistance from K-9 Telly with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office. As K-9 Telly and her handler were heading to help out, 2 fisherman in a boat in the Arlington Marina spotted the suspect hiding underneath sagebrush. They alerted our Deputies, who then went on a short foot pursuit. The suspect, Steven Mcbride, 40, of Union County was arrested on the outstanding warrants.
We would like to thank the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with a K-9 and Thermal Imaging Drone. We also want to thank the community members who helped our Deputies locate the suspect. We shouldn’t have to say this often, but teamwork makes the dream work,
