UNION COUNTY – During the February 8 Special Meeting, the Union County Board of Commissioners moved to memorialize the vote of the November 3, 2020, petition for Ballot Measure 31-101. This measure put to vote the interest of the Union County population in moving the Oregon-Idaho Border eastward as part of the Greater Idaho Movement. Since the passing of the vote, the Union County Board of Commissioners have held special meetings to comply with the measure and discuss how to represent the interests of Union County in any negotiations related to the moving of the state border.
The memorialization of the petition vote is not a declaration of secession or indicative of any immediate legal action that may result in the movement of the border. The move to memorialize the measure is, in effect, an official confirmation/recognition of the outcome of the petition via a letter addressed to the state legislator that may allow for future exploration of the project.
