Union County approves $85,000 in non-lethal wolf management grant fund allocations

UNION COUNTY – During a regular commission meeting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners officially approved $85,007.18 in non-lethal wolf depredation grant funding to be distributed to five applicants in Union County. The grant funds were initially provided to Union County by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Per the grant stipulation, the funds were required to be awarded locally prior to January 31, 2025, or they would be returned to the state.

The recipients of the funds, and the items being funded, include: 

  • Bar V Cattle Company: $32,289.38
    • Range Rider
    • Airplane Fuel
    • Pilot
  • Eric Harlow: $16,122.03
    • Herder Wages
    • Dog Food
    • Extra Herder Food
    • Extra Sheep Camp

  • Krebs Livestock, Inc.: $10,337.64
    • Herder Wages
    • Dog Food 
    • Night Pen

  • Coleman Lay: $11,900.00
    • Range Rider and Fuel

  • USDA Wildlife Services: $14,258.13
    • Fladry, Fox Light, Trail Cameras
    • Carcass removal/disposal program

The fund allocations were recommended by the Union County Wolf Depreciation Compensation Advisory Committee during its meeting on December 19, 2024.
