UNION COUNTY – Some Union County residents who receive solid waste services from Union Sanitation will see a slight rate increase going forward. During the March 20 Union County Commission Meeting, a 4% increase for the Union Sanitation rate was approved by commissioners. This increase only applies to unincorporated areas of Union County that are covered by Union Sanitation for solid waste services. The reason for the increase is largely to offset increasing operational costs, such as fuel, but also primarily due to increasing rates from other entities involved in waste collection and distribution, such as the Baker Landfill, Wastepro in La Grande, as well as other franchise agreements.
