UNION & WALLOWA COUNTIES – A new wave of secure rural schools funding has been released from the U.S. Forest service for fiscal year 2025, and all Oregon counties are expected to receive major allocations. According to a recent update from Senator Ron Wyden’s office, Oregon is slated to receive nearly $48.7 million dollars in SRS funds from 2025 Forest Service revenues.
Among the local allocations, Union County is expected to receive $825,094.92 and Wallowa County $959,068.67, for a combined total of $1,684,163.59 for Oregon’s two northeastern most counties. The funding comes from the Umatilla and Wallowa Whitman National forests.
The funding slated for Oregon is also retroactive, with the latest funds being issued in addition to an earlier allocation announced in February of this year. The earlier allocation saw $756,171.87 slated for Union County and $1,015,392.09 slated for Wallowa County. Prior to the resumed allocations, the program had lapsed in September 2023 due to a stalled bill, with counties not receiving any payments since early 2024.
