Umatilla School District to break ground on new 4-6 intermediate school

UMATILLA – The Umatilla School District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new intermediate school, Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the building site on South Hill, west of the LDS Church on Grant Street.

Superintendent Heidi Sipe said the new intermediate school building will include a full-sized gym and playing fields with room for expansion.

She adds the district is building two new buildings and remodeling some of the others. Aside from the new intermediate school, renovations will be made to convert McNary Heights Elementary to a K-3 building.

A new Career Technical Education building will be built at Umatilla High School constructed with room for expansion, then renovations to the current shop space at Umatilla High to convert it into elective and classroom spaces for Clara Brownell Middle School, plus renovations to help with the transition of Clara Brownell Middle School to a 7-8 building.

Sipe invites the community to attend Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony and celebrate what she calls a significant milestone.
