THE DALLES – Umatilla County saw a year-to-year growth of 30 jobs for private industry in June. Oregon Employment Department Regional Economist Dallas Fridley said that came in spite of some large job losses.

Fridley said other losses in private industry included a 200-job loss for transportation, warehousing, and utilities. Growth was seen in education and health services, rising by 160 jobs. Leisure and hospitality added 100 jobs, and information chipped in 70.

The gain of private industry jobs for June 2022 to June 2023 was much bigger in Morrow County. There an increase of 250 jobs was recorded. Manufacturing led with way with 70 additional jobs. Construction added 50, retail trade chipped in 20, and education and health services was also up 20.
