Umatilla man killed in U.S. 395 crash

HERMISTON – A Umatilla man was killed and two others were injured in a crash that closed U.S. 395 between Hermiston and Umatilla for approximately five hours on Sunday.

An Oregon State Police report says their investigation indicated that a southbound Volkswagen Passat operated by Tyler Garrett, 24, Hermiston crossed into the northbound lane for an unknown reason and struck a Nissan 370 driven by Hadasa Sanchez, 25, of Umatilla head-on.

Garrett was transported an area hospital with critical injuries, Sanchez was also transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Jose Sanchez, 24, of Umatilla was declared deceased at the scene, he was a passenger in the Nissan.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
