UKIAH โ The Umatilla County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering livestock producers a chance to learn more about virtual fencing and the opportunity to obtain grant funding for such a project.
Director Kyle Waggoner is inviting everyone to a meeting Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ukiah Senior Center, 100 Despain St. One of the items to be discussed is applying for grants for the fencing via the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB).
โWe will have a planning session to try to basically capture that interest, have people sign up, and start mapping out what that grant is going to look like and what ground we need to cover in the county,โ Waggoner said.
The grant application is due Aug. 4 and the district is seeking ranchers who want to sign up for a virtual fence station on their ground. The meeting will begin with a presentation on the use of virtual fence technology. That will be followed by a planning session on the OWEB grant. Food will be provided.
Waggoner discusses virtual fencing for livestock in depth on the July 7 KUMA Coffee Hour. The podcast can be accessed at https://omny.fm/shows/coffee-hour-podcast.
