UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners made good on its vow to take its fight for the land it had been allotted to court. The county had asked the Columbia Development Authority to rescind its vote that turned former Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot land to the Port of Umatilla and the Port of Morrow.

The suit was filed last week in the Sixth Circuit Court. It charges a breach of contract. The county has participated and invested in the land turnover to local authorities by the U.S. Army for three decades.

The defendants in the court action are the CDA, the Port of Morrow, and the Port of Umatilla. The plaintiffs are asking for at least $1 million in damages. They are also requesting a trial by jury.
