There were several contested elections and two ballot measures in the May 20 Special Election. Here are the unofficial vote totals at last report. Remember, ballots that arrive late but are postmarked May 20 will be counted when they are received.

Ballot Measures

The renewal of the local option tax in Milton-Freewater is passing with 60.44 percent of โ€œyesโ€ votes and 39.56 percent โ€œnoโ€ votes.

The bond measure for a new police station in the city of Umatilla is failing, with 56.85 percent voting โ€œnoโ€ and 43.15 percent in favor.

Contested elections:

HELIX SCHOOL DISTRICT: Bobby Corey has 64.29 percent of the vote while Emily Smith has 35.71 percent.

HERMISTON SCHOOL DISTRICT: Position 4 has Phillip Spicerkuhn with 52.37 percent to 47.38 percent for Shay Kennison-Beachy. Position 6 sees Chris Elliot with 51.33 percent to 48.48 percent for Mark Millard.

PENDLETON SCHOOL DISTRICT: Ryan DeGrofft holds 74.28 percent while Kendall Rosario has 25.37 percent.

PILOT ROCK CEMETERY DISTRICT: Tom Rugg has 86.56 percent to Greg Wheelhouse with 13.44 percent.

PORT OF UMATILLA: Position 2 sees Bob Blanc with 60.53 percent and David Drotzmann with 39.18 percent. For Position 3, Jerry Simpson has 52.25 percent to 47.24 percent for Paul Chalmers.

STANFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT: For Position 3 Devin Bailey has 63.47 percent and Crystal Zielke has 36.16 percent. For Position 4, Nikki McCann has 58.18 percent to 41.45 percent for Aileen Gabriel.

UMATILLA RURAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT: Tracy Finck holds 58.50 percent to 40.53 percent for Amber Stanley.

UMATILLA HOSPITAL DISTRICT: Charlotte Baxter has 62.75 percent of the vote to 36.60 percent for Enrique Navarro.

Voter turnout is low in Umatilla County with only 12.97 percent of the voters casting ballots so far.
