Umatilla bridge lane closures planned for the next 12 months

UMATILLA – Motorists crossing the Umatilla Bridge will have to get used to the single lane closures currently in place, for the foreseeable future.

Scott Klepach with the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says painting work is being done on the bridge that takes Interstate 82 across the Columbia River. He says the painting work should be done by the end of the year, and that there are some structural repairs that may or may not be able to be completed at the same time. He says WSDOT has a plan for a 24/7 lane closure for the next 12 months.

Klepach said although the bridge work is a WSDOT project, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is paying for half the cost. Klepach also mentioned that ODOT will be repairing the concrete roadway from the end of the bridge all the way to the intersection of Interstate 84.

ODOT does have a concrete repair project from just west of Pendleton on Interstate 84, to the intersection of Interstate 82 and then up to the Umatilla Bridge. TripCheck.com doesn’t show any work currently taking place regarding that project on Interstate 82, but there is work involving lane closures and two-lane traffic on Interstate 84 between Pendleton and the Interstate 82 interchange.
