UMATILLA – The Umatilla School District broke ground for two new buildings earlier this week. The new intermediate school is planned to open in fall of 2025. That will be followed at a yet unannounced date for the career and technical education building.
“These projects, along with essential site improvements, furnishings, and equipment, represent a comprehensive plan to enhance the educational landscape in Umatilla,” Superintendent Heidi Sipe said.
Joining Sipe at both ground breaking ceremonies were Chervenell Construction Senior Project Manager Kyle Clark and Board of Education Chair Lesly Claustro-Sanguino. Parents, students, school staff and community members were in attendance.
The new intermediate school will be for fourth graders through sixth graders. It will feature a full-sized gym, varsity soccer field and room for future expansion.
“This facility will not only provide our intermediate students with a modern, supportive learning environment but also serve as a hub for community activities and growth,” Sipe said.
The CTE building will serve the high school. Space that is currently used for shop classes at UHS will be renovated into elective and classroom spaces for Clara Brownell Middle School, which will transition to a building for seventh and eighth grade students. The project is a collaborative effort involving Alliance Management & Construction Solutions as project manager, Design West Architects for architectural work, and Chervenell Construction Company. All three firms are located in Kennewick.
