UMATILLA – (News release from the Umatilla Police Department) Today (Thursday) at approximately 0819 hours Sergeant Natalia Tovey, of Umatilla Police Department, observed a male walking in the area of 6th Street and L Street that matched the description of a wanted subject. The male immediately fled on foot when contact was attempted.
The male was later confirmed to be wanted subject, 31-year-old Damion Lee Williams. Mr. Williams had several out of state warrants for attempted first degree murder, robbery, burglary, assault, and absconding. Mr. Williams was taken into custody, and has since been transported to Umatilla County Jail.
Umatilla Police Department would like to offer sincere thanks to Oregon State Police, Hermiston Police Department, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Umatilla Rural Fire Department, Umatilla County Fire District #1 for their assistance in this incident.
As a precautionary measure, the Umatilla School District was notified and placed in lockdown status. Superintendent Heidi Sipe stated, on behalf of the Umatilla School District, “We are thankful for the outstanding partnership with Umatilla Police Department. In the midst of stressful situations, they prioritize student safety and keep us notified.”
