PENDLETON – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase in ATV and UTV thefts.

Sheriff Terry Rowan said especially up in the mountains where there are a lot of cabins, ATV and UTV owners should get up and check on them – make sure they’re okay.

Having the appropriate paperwork, such serial numbers, and a full description of the make/model is also important.

“Many times, we’ll recover items like that that match the description,” Rowan said. “But we can’t definitively say this came from this particular victim until maybe days down the line or even weeks.”

Rowan advises ATV and UTV owners to keep all the necessary paperwork in a safe place.
