PENDLETON – It’s Inauguration Day and federal and state governments are taking the possibility of violence seriously. So is Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan.
“We’ve beefed up our patrol schedules to be present in and around the courthouses both in Hermiston and Pendleton,” he said.
Rowan said his office has not heard of any concrete plans for protests that could ramp up to include violence. He simply would rather play it safe than be sorry.
“I know it’s an emotional time for a lot of folks so we just hope that here locally everyone maintains the peace and we can move ahead,” Rowan said.
