HERMISTON – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office stopped a man driving a backhoe on Bensel Road Tuesday following a report from Family Auto Sales that a suspicious male was trying to sell a backhoe without proof of ownership.

The John Deere backhoe was stolen from a lot at Diagonal Road in Hermiston Sunday. The sheriff’s office posted the theft on its Facebook page to alert the public.

On Tuesday, the backhoe was recovered and Collin McIntyre, 33, of Hermiston was arrested. McIntyre is charged with three felonies. They are possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and trafficking in stolen vehicles. His bail is set at $100,000.
