UCFD1 has a busy week leading up to the 4th of July

HERMISTON – Firefighters for Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 responded to reports of three fires that were caused by fireworks as well as 11 other fire incidents over a five day period. Those three calls were a small grass fire on Baggett Lane in Hermiston that was extinguished by responsible parties, an illegal firework on Northwest Butte Drive in Hermiston, and a fire along a walking path at Northeast Emerald Drive in Hermiston.

There were two vehicle fires that had to be put out. One was a feed truck with hay bales on fire inside the hopper in Stanfield. The second was a fire involving a vehicle that was being repaired in Hermiston.

Two structure fires in Hermiston were called in to 911. One was an electrical fire in a residence on Hawkins Lane. The other was smoke from an exterior breaker panel on Northeast McCallister.

Firefighters also fought a dumpster fire on Joy Lane in Hermiston. Crews responded to seven vegetation fires – three in Hermiston, one in Stanfield, one in Mission, one in Stanfield, and another in Umatilla. Altogether, UCFD1 responded to 107 fire and EMS incidents during the five-day period. Crews also inspected three permitted fireworks displays and inspected six retail fireworks sales sites.
