PENDLETON – Jaime Ubay-Farfan, 25, of Kennewick has a court appearance today (Wednesday). He is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Tracey Scott Medows of Hood River last June in the vicinity of Interstate 84 and Interstate 82. Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said now that the fitness assessment is in the rear view mirror he expects the case to start moving forward.
“Hopefully, we’ll have an understanding of where we’re at; if we need to get trial dates and motion dates set or to determine if we’re able to come to some form of a resolution as a result of Mr. Farfan’s contacts,” Primus said.
Ubay-Farfan was arrested in Benton County, where he is still charged with a less lethal road rage incident. He was extradited to Oregon to face the more serious charge first. Primus said due to that, his office is working with the Benton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the suspect’s Benton County defense attorney as well as his Umatilla County defense attorney.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Ubay-Farfan is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another, and being a fugitive. His bail is set at $4 million.
