COLORADO SPRINGS – The U.S. Northern Command is demobilizing the 100 Oregon National Guard troops who volunteered for duty in Portland for what it has called its Federal Protection Mission. Many of those soldiers are from Eastern and Central Oregon.

The Army is also demobilizing National Guard soldiers in California and Illinois. The Northern Command reports that 200 Texas National Guard troops remain in Texas on standby.

The Northern Command informed the Oregon Military Department that demobilization activities require the troops travel to Fort Bliss, Texas before they return to Oregon. The ONG soldiers served for more than 100 days, including holidays.

The U.S. District Court injunction preventing deployment of the National Guard in Oregon remains in effect, according to Gov. Tina Kotek’s office. It is currently being appealed in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
