WALLA WALLA – A civilian and one firefighter were treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation after a single-story home caught fire Thursday night on the 600 block of North 11th Avenue.
The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched at 7:48 p.m. As part of a mutual-aid agreement, Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 and College Place Fire Department responded to assist.
The accidental fire resulted from combustibles that were too close to an overheated fan. Damage is estimated at $40,000.
There were no working smoke alarms installed at the residence. The Walla Walla Fire Department reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives, and emphasizes the importance of checking smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are in working condition.
