Two St. Alphonsus Health System Hospitals Recognized as Top Socially Responsible Hospitals

EASTERN OREGON – (Release from Saint Alphonsus)  Saint Alphonsus Medical Centers in Nampa, Idaho and Ontario, Oregon are both rated in the Top 10 “Most Socially Responsible” hospitals in the United States, according to a new ranking from the Lown Institute.  The Lown Index ranked more than 3,600 hospitals based on health equity, value and outcomes.

66 U.S. hospitals earned the “most socially responsible” distinction from the think tank, which examined 53 different metrics including inclusivity, equity, patient safety and avoidance of unnecessary and potentially harmful procedures.

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Nampa came in as the top hospital in Idaho and #8 nationally.  Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Ontario was ranked #2 in Oregon and #9 in the United States.

In addition, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise earned an “A” rating in the survey, ranking third in Idaho and 146th in the country.

The Nampa hospital scored high in the areas of cost efficiency, patient safety and overall equity, which looked at pay equity, community benefit and inclusivity.  The Ontario hospital was highly rated for equity and clinical outcomes.

“These hospitals show that it is possible to provide great patient outcomes, invest in communities, and avoid overuse, even while facing challenges of COVID,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute.
