BAKER COUNTY – Oregon State Police in Baker County dealt with a couple incidents recently that lead to arrests.  The first occurred when the OSP Officer stopped, for what he believed was a disabled vehicle, on I-84 at milepost 351 (approximately 45 miles east of Baker City).  According to reports the officer could see a male occupant trying to change a tire.  An investigation led to the discovery that the driver, 30-year-old Joshua A Escarsega of Boise, Idaho had rolled the vehicle and was trying to get it road worthy.

The driver lied to the officer about his identity and was subsequently given a criminal citation for giving false information to police and cited for no operator’s license and fail to carry insurance.  Escarsega also had an extraditable warrant out of Idaho but the Baker County Sheriff’s Office refused to lodge.

The Idaho warrant will remain active per a request from Idaho.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.

A second, unrelated incident, occurred on Highway 30 and Indiana Ave in Baker City when Oregon State Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.  The driver, 37-year-old Tom R Carroll of Baker City was found to be in violation of probation and consented to a search which yielded a restricted weapon.

Carrol was cited for possession of weapon by felon.
