Two men arrested following pursuit in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department arrested two men Monday following a pursuit that ended when the driver lost control, then attempted to ram a patrol vehicle, causing more than $5,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.

WWPD said an officer attempted to stop a green Ford Mustang at 9:42 a.m. near Safeway on North Wilbur Avenue for reckless driving. The driver, identified as Adam James Morris, 32, of Walla Walla reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour, ran stop signs and a red light, and nearly collided with another vehicle at Howard Street and Prospect Avenue.

The pursuit ended when Morris lost control of the Ford Mustang at Cottonwood Road and Prospect Avenue. Morris then rammed a WWPD patrol vehicle. Officers ordered Morris to stop. He was into custody without further incident.

Morris had two passengers in the vehicle – Dallas Fresco Letney Smith, 43 of Milton-Freewater and a teenage girl.

Both Morris and Smith were booked into the Walla Walla County Jail. Morris is being held on probable cause for second-degree assault – deadly weapon, first-degree malicious mischief, attempting to elude and reckless driving. Smith is being held on probable cause for second-degree burglary and third-degree theft. Both men also have warrants out of Oregon.

Arraignments for both Morris and Smith are scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.
