Two La Grande School District Coaches Selected as Coaches of the Year

LA GRANDE – (Release from La Grande School District) The La Grande School District is pleased to announce that the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) has selected two district coaches for honors.

OACA selected Cindy Williams as an OACA Assistant Coach of the Year. For La Grande High School, Williams is the JV Volleyball Coach and assists with the LHS Varsity Volleyball team.

Darren Goodman, LHS Athletic Director, said that Cindy is an outstanding assistant coach at LHS. “Cindy’s smile and positivity are infectious, and her hard work and dedication is an example for every student-athlete who competes for her. Cindy is very competitive and driven, but believes in winning and losing with class. Simply put, she does things the right way and La Grande High School is lucky to have her!” Goodman said.

Williams said she is excited to receive this honor. “Coaching is one of my favorite things and it has given me the chance to pass on my love of the game of volleyball to lots of players over the years. I would like to thank Melinda Becker-Bisenius for nominating me for this award and Teresa Dowdy for giving me the chance to be a part of the LHS Volleyball program when I was a new coach. And thank you to all of the current and former volleyball players at LHS, I am proud to have been your coach!”

OACA also selected Dalton Sheets as an OACA Middle School Coach of the Year. Sheets has been coaching wrestling at La Grande Middle School for nine years and coached middle school football for the first time this year.
