Union, OR – During the latest City of Union Council work session, an ongoing discussion on merging two volunteer fire departments. In years to come it’s possible the City Fire Department and Union Rural Fire Department could become one, but there is a lot of work ahead to see if the merger would be feasible to the city, according to Doug Wiggins, City of Union Administrator. City of Union voters would have to approve the merger.
Currently, the city and the rural departments share the same building with separate chiefs and operate under different funding. More will be discussed during the councils meeting in February.
