BAKER COUNTY — Oregon State Police report that two drivers were injured in a crash that closed Oregon Highway 86 Friday afternoon.
On May 16th, it was first reported that OR-86 was closed both eastbound and westbound due to a crash near Milepost 36, roughly five miles west of Richland. According to OSP, police responded to the two-vehicle, head-on collision between a westbound Ford Ranger pickup and a Chevrolet Silverado. It was noted that the driver of the Ford Ranger, Chad Daniel Palmer, 39, of Richland failed to maintain his lane, causing the crash. Palmer was transported by ground ambulance and then air ambulance to a hospital in Boise.
The driver of the Silverado was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital in Baker City. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with possible criminal charges being referred to the Baker County District Attorney. The condition of either driver has not been released.
