BAKER COUNTY – Two people and three dogs are displaced after a fire ripped through a home on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 23.
The fire occurred at a house on Old Auburn Lane, about eight miles south of Baker City along Highway 7.
The Greater Bowen Valley Rural Fire Protection District responded to the initial call, but then called out for mutual aid assistance to Baker City Fire & Rescue, Baker Rural Fire Rescue and Keating Rural Fire.
According to Chief Sean Lee of Baker Rural Fire, the fire remains under investigation but it appears to have started in the living room area.
Two people who lived there were home at the time and managed to escape uninjured with their dogs.
Chief Lee says it took firefighters about an hour to fully control and put out the blaze. He said the house suffered serious damage, including smoke damage, but the house is not a total loss.
