GEORGE -Two people are dead and three others are injured following a shooting at the Gorge Amphitheatre Saturday night near George, Washington. The shooter was among the three injured.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said the shooting took place in a campground on the opposite side of the venue where the Beyond Wonderland music festival was underway.
Foreman said the shooter fired into the crowd, then walked away from where the incident occurred.
“Law enforcement moved into the area to try to track him down,” Foreman explained. “The shooter continued to shoot randomly into the crowd and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.”
During the law enforcement response, an officer-involved shooting incident occurred. The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit is examining the initial incident.
Due to Saturday night’s incident, Beyond Wonderland canceled Sunday’s concerts and issued the following statement:
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the local authorities and staff who acted quickly to manage the situation. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic event.”
