Two children killed in crash involving suspected drunk driver

SUNNYSIDE – The Washington State Patrol reports two children from Grandview died after the car they were riding in was struck head on by a suspected drunk driver near Sunnyside at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said Keith A. Goings, 20, of Springfield, Missouri, was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 82 at milepost 65, two miles west of Sunnyside when his 2007 Ford Mustang collided with a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by Maurilio D. Both vehicles were totaled. Trejo, 23, of Grandview. Trejo had three children riding with him – a 5-year-old girl, a 6-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl.

The 6-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl died at the scene. Trejo and his 5-year-old female passenger, along with Goings were all injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. No further details were released on their conditions or injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation and charges are pending against Goings, according to the Washington State Patrol.
