KLAMATH FALLS – Pendleton Mayor John Turner is honored by the Oregon Mayors Association with its Mayors Leadership Award for large cities. The award was announced during the OMA Summer Conference earlier this month.

Turner is the only mayor from Eastern Oregon to receive the state-wide recognition. The medium city winner is Lincoln City Mayor Susan Wahlke. The small city winner is Jefferson Mayor Michael Meyers.

Turner, who retires at the end of this year, has held the office since 2017. OMA cited him for his unwavering commitment to Pendleton. He is known for his work towards creating housing in the city, an effort he began before he was elected. Turner also helped create a legislative advisory board for the city to lobby for state funding for infrastructure, tourism, and housing in the Round-Up City.

Also at the awards ceremony, North Plains Mayor Teri Lenahan and Hillsboro Mayor Steve Callaway received awards of merit.
