PENDLETON – Today marks the beginning of Blue Mountain Community College President Mark Browning’s second week on the job. He said he is equipped with advice from some of the local people he’s met.

“Probably the most helpful thing anybody’s told me so far is about groceries,” he said. “Get your groceries early. I hadn’t thought of that.”

Today at the Round-Up the Pendleton Whisky After-Slack Party for those 21 and older will get started around 3 p.m. in the Section DD Saloon in the Round-Up stands. Competitors and the public can help raise funds for the Hall of Fame and Tough Enough to Wear Pink by buying drinks or investing in raffle items. Admission is free.

Downtown, advance carnival armband sales end at 6 p.m. After that, the armbands will cost $7 more. They’re on sale at The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon, the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce, Southgate Mini Mart, Bi-Mart, Abby’s Pizza, and D & B. The carnival opens at 6 p.m., but armbands aren’t used on Tuesday. It’s $1 per ride until it closes.

Tonight at the Happy Canyon Arena is the last night of the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Classic. The finale to the regular Xtreme tour promises to see the nation’s top bull riders turn out for one last grab at the purse.
