HUNTINGTON – (Information from the Oregon State Police) The OSP responded to a truck vs SUV crash near Huntington last week. The incident occurred at 03:12 p.m., September 7th on I-84 westbound near milepost 345. The OSP issued the following description of the incident.
“OSP responded to a report of a semi-truck vs SUV on 184 near milepost 345 West. The passenger of the SUV was flown by Life Flight due to injuries. The driver of the SUV left the scene before a statement could be ascertained. The semi-truck driver said that the SUV had attempted to pass him, and it cut over too soon, making contact with the semi-truck that caused the SUV to spin in front of the semi-truck and subsequently strike the rear passenger side of the semi-truck. Then spin off the truck into the guardrail, then back onto the roadway hitting the center barrier, then back into the guardrail and finally coming to rest blocking the lane of traffic, OSP called for a tow for the SUV, Five Star removed the vehicle. The semi-truck had a tire replaced and did not need a tow.”
While it can be annoying to get stuck behind a truck, keep in mind that their ability to see and react to other traffic is much lower than a regular car, not to mention their sheer mass makes any crash all the more catastrophic. Always make sure to give proper clearance when passing a tractor trailer or any other commercial motor vehicle.
