Truck driver seriously injured in Highway 19 rollover near Arlington

ARLINGTON – A semi-truck driver was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday afternoon following a rollover crash on Oregon Highway 19, about eight miles south of Arlington.
The Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, along with the North Gilliam Rural Fire Protection District and North Gilliam Medic Ambulance, responded to the scene at around 2:15 p.m. First responders found the semi-truck on its side, blocking the highway’s southbound lane.
The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, sustained serious injuries. A Life Flight Network helicopter was called to transport the driver for a higher level of care.
The highway was impacted for approximately three hours while crews recovered the vehicle and cleared the roadway.
A preliminary investigation indicates that speed and a shifted load were contributing factors in the crash.
“We are grateful this incident did not result in a fatality and would like to thank the many motorists who stopped to assist, supported first responders, and remained patient while the highway was temporarily closed,” the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
