Trick-or-Treating is fun, but make sure and stay safe

UNION COUNTY – Halloween is this Thursday and that means lots of little ghosts, goblins, princess and superheroes will be taking to the streets to partake in the tradition of Trick-or-Treating.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office has provided the community with some helpful tips to help keep children safe.

1. Carry a flashlight or light stick

2. Wear white or light-colored clothing or apply reflective trim to your clothing to help drivers see you on dark streets.

3. Do not cover your face with a mask you cannot see out of. Instead, use an easy-to-remove paint, or make-up.

4. Go to community-wide events or homes in your neighborhood. Remember to only go to homes that have the porch light on.

5. Never go into a house unless you know the people who live there.

6. Let your parents or another adult accompany you.

7. Do not eat candy or other goodies until your parents have checked them.

8. If you are unsure that the goodies are safe then do not eat them.
