WALLA WALLA – A woman charged with unlawful imprisonment of a child this past August has been found competent to stand trial on Dec. 16.

Carmen Gwen Ledezma, 48, of Walla Walla is accused of picking up a 2-year-old child on Aug. 23, 2024, at an apartment complex playground and walking towards her apartment. The victim’s 13-year-old sibling called their mother who came outside and confronted Ledezma and took her child back.

Ledezma told the police she took the child because the mother and sibling were abusing the toddler. Investigators found no indication of abuse.

The Walla Walla Police Department said it has a history of mental health related incidents with Ledezma.
