RICHLAND, Washington – A federal jury has convicted David Mendoza Ayala, 30, of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl following a long-term investigation by federal and local authorities.
Court documents show law enforcement officers executed search warrants across Mendoza Ayala’s apartment, garages, storage units, and vehicles. Investigators seized over 50,000 fentanyl pills, cocaine, methamphetamine, $10,000 in cash, 13 vehicles, and more than a dozen firearms.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing two young children were found inside the defendant’s apartment just feet away from fentanyl-laced pills scattered across the carpet.
U.S. District Judge Mary K. Dimke scheduled sentencing for Nov. 12. Mendoza Ayala faces at least 10 years to life in prison.
