PASCO — Tri-Cities Airport, known by its airport code, PSC, will soon expand its winter operations thanks to more than $8.3 million in federal grants, allowing up to three commercial aircraft to undergo deicing simultaneously.
The major upgrade, funded through the federal Airport Improvement Program and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, centers on expanding the airport’s existing deicing pad. Airport officials expect the expanded facility to significantly cut departure wait times, boost operational efficiency, and enhance traveler safety during periods of snow and freezing weather.
The multi-million-dollar funding package encompasses $5.3 million for deicing pad design and construction, $2.95 million for expanded runoff infrastructure alongside two new taxiways, and nearly $88,000 to relocate FAA navigational and weather equipment.
“As passenger traffic continues to grow, it’s essential that we continue improving the infrastructure that supports safe and efficient operations throughout every season at PSC,” Tri-Cities Airport Director Buck Taft said. “Expanding our deicing capabilities and modernizing the surrounding airfield will allow us to better serve our airline partners and the traveling public for years to come.”
Construction on the deicing expansion and supporting airfield improvements is slated to begin in March 2027 following project bidding later this year. The project builds on recent modernizations at the airport, including upgraded passenger boarding bridges and terminal improvements.
