BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the U.S. Forest Service) Fire personnel are responding to multiple reports of smoke in the Town Gulch fire area. This smoke is being caused by tree needles being dropped by high winds and temperatures. Personnel are aware of these concerns and are patrolling the area. At this time, there are no threats to control lines, and we will continue to respond as needed.
Natural resource specialists and fire personnel are in the Town Gulch fire area almost daily. A large number of tree needles have fallen over the past two weeks due to high winds and higher than average temperatures. Accumulation of needles are providing a new, continuous fuel bed. Usually, stump holes and log ends burn on the interior, but the needles are allowing fire to spread out more.
