Train Derailment west of La Grande

LA GRANDE – (Information from Union County Emergency Services) Eleven single-stack intermodal freight (shipping container) railcars derailed west of La Grande near the I-84 259 exit ramp at approximately 9:00 PM last night. Union Pacific Railroad management is in communication with Union County 911 Dispatch and the county emergency manager, and confirmed that there were no injuries and no hazardous materials involved.

Railroad crossings at Fir and Greenwood Streets will be blocked by parked railcars for some time while Union Pacific conducts an investigation. Railroad management plans to move the parked railcars as soon as possible to re-open the two impacted crossings.
