Touchet fire chief is arrested

BENTON COUNTY – Otis Allan Garbe, 57, of Touchet is in Benton County Jail charged with rape of a child and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes charges filed against him. Garbe, who is the chief of Walla Walla County Fire District No. 6, is being held on $100,000 bail.

Documents filed with Benton County Superior Court indicate Garbe was the subject of an investigation that the Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children team based in Richland, Washington launched on July 10.

It’s alleged that Garbe knew the girl was under the age of legal consent and texted the girl to set up a meeting on Thursday afternoon. When he got there, police were waiting to arrest him.

Investigators say he admitted to them that he was there to meet a girl for sex, according to court documents. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying condoms and his work cell phone on his person. His personal cell and a second phone were found in his vehicle.
