WALLA WALLA – A pursuit that began near Walla Walla caused anxious moments before Washington State Patrol ensured that a 1-year-old child in the vehicle was safe. Alicia Enriquezmyer, 21, identified as the driver, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and took off on Highway 12 when a Walla Walla County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop.
Washington State Patrol joined in the pursuit, which troopers say reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle stopped near Boise Cascade in the Wallula area. WSP blocked traffic in both directions. Initially, the occupants of the car did not obey commands to exit the vehicle.
WSP Trooper Chris Thorson confirmed that the driver called 911 to say that she had a 1-year-old child on her lap. After a 40-minute standoff, people began to exit the vehicle. The last to leave the car was Enriquezmyer, carrying the child.
According to police, the driver had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants and another passenger in the vehicle, who is 17, had outstanding felony warrants.
