Todd McKinley selected as American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the entire Western Region

JOHN DAY – The accolades keep rolling in for Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley. Recently it was reported that the sheriff has been selected by the American Legion District of Oregon as the state’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Sheriff McKinley will receive those honors at the American Legion State Convention in Lincoln City this coming June.

American Legion District 10 Former Commander Jim Jerome was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Monday to explain the sheriff has advanced in the selection process, and was chosen as the top law enforcement officer in the entire nine-state Western Region.

“[The Western Region] is nine different state departments. So, he is the top dog in all nine…all the way to Hawaii. From Alaska, to the Mexican border, [and] as far east as Colorado. The plaque for him is in the process of being made. We will receive his plaque about the first week in May. The presentation will take place in June.”

Former District Commander Jerome said there are five total regions representing the American Legion, and that our sheriff is up against four other law enforcement personnel for the National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. We’ll provide updates as they are released.
