UMATILLA COUNTY – Cindy Timmons has been a Umatilla County commissioner for a little over a week. She says she has an open-door policy and is learning more every day about the intricacies of operating the government.

An independent committee had recommended that the county should hire an administrator to handle the day-to-day workings of the county. While Timmons has a motto of “never say never,” she said she feels at this point that an administrator is not needed.

She estimated that it would cost the county about $400,000 to pay such a person.

“How are you going to sell that to the Umatilla County voters,” she wondered. “At this point, I don’t see how you’re going to do it.”

She said she’s impressed with the work ethic of commissioners Dan Dorran and John Shafer.

“Dan and John have the same work ethic that I do,” she said. “They really raise the bar and I’m pleased to be associated with that. At this point, I do not think we need a county administrator.”
