UMATILLA COUNTY – Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chair Cindy Timmons received an update from the Community Action Program of East Central Oregon (CAPECO) regarding service to the homeless population in the county.

In the month of October Timmons said CAPECO Director Paula Hall reported that the agency performed 87 homeless assessments impacting 125 individuals. They were provided access to shelter, housing resources and support services.

CAPECO also helped homeowners that are close to foreclosure through its long-term housing stability programs. Those are people who were in danger of becoming homeless.

Timmons said that the outreach is a county-wide effort partnering with the Pendleton Police Department, Milton-Freewater Hospitality Ministries, and Stepping Stones Alliance in Hermiston.
