HERMISTON – Hermiston residents can have a say in the city’s future if they take the Hermiston 2040 survey. It’s been available for several months, but is coming down on Sept. 30. The Hermiston 2040 Steering Committee will then begin the hard job of analyzing all the responses.

“There’s an awful lot of free response,” Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said. “We really want to get folks’ honest thoughts and feedback rather than leading them into certain statements and conclusions.”

Morgan said the committee is comprised of 20 members from diverse backgrounds working with a consultant. When the survey ends, the committee will get to the hard task of interpreting the data.

“It’s one thing to go out and survey a thousand people in the community,” he said. “It’s something completely different to interpret what all that means.”

Hermiston is the fastest growing community in Eastern Oregon. The survey deals with people’s personal desires of what changes that growth could bring.
