PENDLETON – Three people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a chain-reaction crash involving two cars and a college bus on Interstate 84 west of Pendleton on Saturday night.
According to an Oregon State Police report, the incident began when a westbound Nissan Sentra struck a deer near the top of the hill exiting Pendleton, disabling the vehicle.
A Ford Focus was unable to avoid the Nissan, striking the rear of the disabled car. sideswiping a bus from Wenatchee Valley College that had also moved to avoid the disabled Nissan. The Ford then sideswiped a Wenatchee Valley College bus that had also maneuvered to avoid the Nissan. Following the impact, the Ford entered the median and rolled, coming to rest on its roof.
The driver of the Nissan, a Kahlotus resident, and the occupants of the Ford, who are from Salem, were transported by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.
No injuries were reported among those on the bus.
The crash forced the closure of the westbound left-hand lane of I-84 while crews cleared the scene.
