WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department and several other agencies responded at 11:28 a.m. Monday to a residential structure fire at 1410 South 15th Avenue to reports of a bedroom on fire. Due to smoke exposure, two males and one female were transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center. No firefighters were injured.

The occupants of the split-level residential structure notified firefighters of the fire’s location on the bottom level of the home after they exited the residence. After confirming all occupants were safely out of the residence, crews immediately went to work extinguishing the fire located in the basement.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Property and content losses are estimated at $150,000.

Although the residence had working smoke alarms on the secondary level, there were no smoke alarms on the basement level where the fire originated. The Walla Walla Fire Department reminds everyone that a working smoke alarm should be in all sleeping rooms and any bedroom exit corridor.
