LA GRANDE – (Information provided by EOU Athletics) The NAIA announced late Monday evening the 2022 national qualifiers for the heptathlon that will compete at the Indoor National Championships in early March. Of the 16 top marks in the event, Eastern Oregon University accounted for three of them.
The Mountaineers will send three athletes in the heptathlon to this year’s NAIA National Championships in TJ Davis, Sam Roddewig, and Judson Mansfield. EOU was one of five schools that will send multiple qualifiers, but is the only school that had three selections.
Davis enters the heptathlon as the top-ranked multi-event athlete with 5,248 points. His point total came at the Washington State Invitational and is the second highest mark all-time in EOU indoor history.
Roddewig will head to Indoor Nationals currently ranked 10th in the event with 4,651 points. Like Davis, Roddewig was able to post his point total at the WSU Invite. He was eighth in the NAIA at the time, but still finds himself inside the top-10 entering the National Championships.
Mansfield was able to punch his ticket to the National Championships in what was the last meet of the regular season at the Polar Vortex Classic this past weekend. The freshman scored 4,467 points to secure the No. 12 spot in the final 16 slots and his total is now eighth best all-time in EOU indoor history.
The NAIA will announce its final qualifiers for the Indoor National Championships this upcoming Friday, Feb. 25 by 3 p.m. PT/5 p.m. CT. The 2022 NAIA Indoor National Championships will be held March 3-5 in Brookings, S.D. This year’s host will once again be Dakota State University.
